提到美國東岸的嘻哈饒舌音樂，就不能不提到武當派(Wu-Tang Clan)；而GZA正是其中的饒舌大將之一；出身於紐約布魯克林區的他，可以說是真正倚靠著一支麥克風而脫離貧民區的標準美國夢，他比所有的武當派成員都更早開始饒舌樂的演出。在1976年，嘻哈還是很在地的那種紐約地方音樂時，他就已經開始表演並於1991年發行第一張專輯唱片 "Words from the Genius."
